The readings for Week 4 return us to the genre of fiction, specifically postmodern fiction in three short works:
– Sherman Alexie’s “The Only Traffic Signal on the Reservation Doesn’t Flash Red Anymore” (1993) from the book collection of short stories (Attached Below)
– The Lone Ranger and Tonto Fistfight in Heaven; Sandra Cisneros’ “Barbie-Q” (1991)(Attached Below);
– Amy Tan’s “Two Kinds” from the novel, The Joy Luck Club. Link :
Instructions: Cover at least two stories in your required discussion posts. You may determine the topic of your posts but should compare/contrast one of this week’s texts with another course text (any assigned literary text from the Course Calendar, including the other texts from this week) in at least one of your posts. Be sure to establish a clear, focused basis for comparison.
Potential topics for discussion are provided in the Discussion study guide in the weekly module. ( Attached Below)
Please be sure to label the subject line of your posts clearly–including the author and/or title of the story–for ease of discussion.
Students should complete a minimum of two posts and two replies for this Week discussion.
