alternative sentencing and community corrections
Functions and Issues for Alternative Sentencing and Community Corrections [WLO: 1] [CLOs: 1, 2, 5, 6] |
Prior to beginning work on this discussion, please review the assigned material in your Stojkovic and Lovell (2019) textbook and review Alternative Sentences (Links to an external site.). You may also wish to consider some of the recommended resources for this week. Your initial post consists of two parts:
- Part 1
- Discuss objectives and issues for alternative sentencing.
- To help you with this part, consider the discussion of various alternative sanctions (where alternative sentencing may focus on sanctions other than or replacing incarceration) in your textbook Chapter 7.
- Identify ways in which probation meets or fails to meet the goals of sentencing, considering how probation is not often perceived as a function of corrections.
- Discuss objectives and issues for alternative sentencing.
- Part 2
- The textbook provides several examples of community corrections as a means of reintegrating formerly incarcerated persons into communities. Explain how reintegration after a term of incarceration relates to social justice and criminal justice objectives. In addition, give an example of a community corrections effort whose aim is assisting with reintegration.
Your initial post should be at least 250 words in length. Support your claims with examples from any required material or other scholarly resources and properly cite any references.
