Annotated Bibliography

Objective:

You will create an annotated bibliography of 5 high-quality potential sources for your Researched Argument. An annotated bibliography is a wonderful research tool that allows you to keep track of your research in one condensed location. You will correctly cite each source according to MLA guidelines as you would on your Works Cited page, followed by a brief summary and sample paraphrases and quotations from the source.

Requirements for each of your 5 sources:

  • Complete, accurate citation (as it would appear on your Works Cited page) according to MLA style. See the website Purdue OWL for specific examples and directions.
  • A summary of the article (150 words)
    • This should be an original composition, meaning you should not copy and paste an abstract or summary you find on the back of the book.
  • A sample paraphrase for the paper
    • This is a piece of information taken from the text that is presented in your own words. Internal citation is required.
  • A sample quote for the paper
    • This is information taken exactly from the text. It is indicated with quotation marks and should include internal citation.

Additional requirements and reminders:

  • Sources should appear in alphabetical order by the author’s last name. If an author is not provided, alphabetize based on the first major word of the article title.
  • Summary should provide a clear picture of the article’s content. Using specific language and examples is highly advised.
  • Times New Roman 12pt. font
  • Double-spaced
  • One-inch margins
  • Minimal errors in punctuation or accuracy/completeness of information
