1.0: ASSIGNMENT INTRODUCTION / PURPOSE

A case study provides an in-depth examination of a subject of study along with its related contextual conditions. Further, it examines a place, person, event, phenomenon, or other type of subject of analysis in order to develop key themes and results to help:

  • Predict Future Trends
  • Identify previously hidden issues that can be applied to practice, and/or
  • Provide a means for understanding an important research problem with greater clarity.
  • Case study research is important because it is comprehensive. It is unlikely to find a vague or general case study. The analysis is usually targeted and detailed which enables a holistic view. Additionally, case studies generally do a great job in laying out the problem under investigation. It is hopeful that the identification of the problem may lead to the identification of the solution.

    CASE STUDY ASSIGNMENTS:

In this course, you will analyze two different case studies. It should be noted that these case studies will be changed from semester to semester to keep up with current events.

To keep the course interesting for all involved, we will assign the first case study analysis (CSA1 – WEEK SEVEN) based on the student’s last name:

  • Students with the last name of A-L will read and analyze case study 1A.
  • Students with the last name of M – Z will read and analyze case study 1B.
  • For the second case study analysis (CSA2 – WEEK EIGHT), all students will read and analyze the same case study Two.

This deliverable should comply with all American Psychological Association (APA) Publication Manual (6th Edition) guidelines.

Additionally, this paper should also be written in third person Point of View (POV) as was the case with the Critical Thinking Analysis Paper developed earlier in the course.

2.0: SECTION ONE: INTRODUCTION OF THE PROBLEMS

After the APA-compliant title page, the first component of the paper is the introduction of the case study problems. The cybersecurity case studies that have been provided each give a myriad of challenges faced. If the student does not feel adequate information was provided on the scenario, they are encouraged to conduct external research to acquire more information. Please ensure that all information used (even from the provided articles) is cited per APA guidelines.

In this section, students should summarize two to five (2-5) problems faced in the scenario in their own terms. The evaluator is not looking for a verbatim regurgitation of written material from the article. The ideal in the first section is that the student truly understands why the scenario is problematic.

It is anticipated that this section will be one page in length.

    3.0: SECTION TWO: PROBLEM SIGNIFICANCE/IMPLICATIONS

Following the identification of problems, students should develop section two, problem significance/implications. Again, this sections is to determine if the student truly understands the significance and national implications of the problems presented. Students should justify the significance/implications with additional research to strengthen the case as well as any applicable statistics to help the reader understand the “so what” aspect of the problems.

Students should focus on the significance of the problem to critical infrastructure sectors within the United States.

    4.0: SECTION THREE: SOLUTIONS/RECOMMENDATIONS

In this section, students will provide a minimum of two (2) solutions/recommendations to realistically help remedy the problems identified in the first section. Solutions/recommendations can be as technical or non-technical as necessary as long as they are:

  • Able to be implemented
  • Supported with external research • Comprehensive
  • Students should also discuss strategies for implementation while being specific as to the assignments of who would take what actions in the implementation strategies. These strategies should include concepts from course readings as well as from outside research. It is anticipated that this section will be approximately one (1) page in length.

    5.0: SECTION FOUR: CONCLUSION

The last component of this paper (other than the references section) will be conclusions. The conclusion is intended to help the reader understand why the research/analysis should matter to them after they have finished reading the paper. A conclusion is not merely a summary of the main topics covered or a re-statement of your research problem, but a synthesis of key points.

It is anticipated that this section will be approximately 1⁄4 of a page in length.
