Discussion 14

This week the discussion will be based on a vitamin or mineral that you select yourself using Assignment #1 (please do not select Vit D, unless you clear it with me first as everyone is low on Vit D). Select a nutrient that is really low or high (please note there are more vitamins and minerals beyond the report that may interest you like B12, selenium, chromium, Iodine, etc).

Although you need to use the book for one reference, you must use 2 other approved sources for additional and current information. At least one of the articles must be a peer-reviewed, research article (experimental or observational) from an approved source. Your second article may be a review of literature, a fact sheet, on update or an editorial but it must also be from an approved source as well. Please note that if you choose a fact sheet as your second source, when you complete the review section of your paper, you will have to compare and contrast that to our book and cannot just say it gave a general review. Do not use just an abstract. Below are approved websites and journals but the best place to find a peer reviewed, research article from an approved source would be to look up your nutrient on google scholar. Go to google scholar and put your nutrient into the search bar. Make sure you select either an actual research article (observational or experimental…for more information on this see discussion 13, Dr. Tices video on supplements), or a review article or meta analysis. Your article must be current within the last 5 years. Your second source can be a similar source or from an approved website.
