Hi, please if you could reply to the following discussion questions with a 100-150 word response. Thank you

Terria,

One personal strength in this evidence based project involves my passion in nursing, dermatology. My project involves a dermatological condition, atopic dermatitis. I have been in the field of dermatology for 15 years and although I am very comfortable within that field of nursing, I learn about new ideas, treatments and diseases daily. Most people don’t think of dermatology outside of acne, warts and melanoma, but there is an additional world of rashes, t-cell and b-cell lymphoma, auto-immune diseases and the list goes on. My passion for this becomes my strength and seen with my presentation. My weakness would be my self-doubt and the intimidation from the providers. Since I would be presenting to dermatologist and other dermatology nurses, the fear that I would have nothing new to bring to the table would be terrifying. I work with some amazing physicians, all very highly awarded, so the idea that a nurse could provide insight to a disease that they treat everyday would be a weakness.

To improve my weakness I feel bringing supportive data, simplified and to the point along with improved patient outcomes and testimonies would provide positive information to support my project. I feel my physicians and nurses are here for the patient and will always practice in the best interest for them. With my strength I can improve by getting my audience involved, be expressive and not jittery, and practice before I meet with my group (Stone, 2017). These small changes will help with overall confidence of getting my information across, showing how these alternative treatments with atopic dermatitis can and will work with the information in front of them.

Lanecie,

When it comes to professional presentations, it is important to identify things you do well and also areas that need to be improved on. Identifying these strengths and weaknesses allow you to learn and improve on future presentations.

For me personally, a strength of mine is the preparation. Whenever I am going to do a presentation, I am always extra prepared. If it is a PowerPoint I make sure that I have every slide just the way I want it. I know what I am going to discuss on each slide. I’ll put slide notes in, as well as have note cards. If it is a speech, I write everything out and this make cue cards to use while actually giving the speech. I practice over and over again. Usually I don’t even have to utilize the cards because I have prepared so thoroughly. Preparation is most definitely my strength when it comes to professional presentations.

A weakness of mine is speaking in front of people. It is very uncomfortable for me to get up in front of a crowd of people and speak. I am always extremely nervous. This is a big reason that I prepare so thoroughly. I would never be able to get up in front of a crowd of people and just ad lib. The best method for me to improve on public speaking is to simply do it. I need to put myself in situations where I have to speak in front of people. It doesn’t even necessarily have to be a large crowd of people. I believe that the more I do it, the more comfortable I will become when the opportunity presents itself.

Chiamaka,

When it comes to professional presentations, one of my personal strength is that my speeches are structured so that I can thoroughly explain my thoughts through my introduction, body, and conclusion. I like to ensure that the audience fully understands the points I am making and the reasoning behind them. And sadly, my weakness is also my speech delivery. Even although I am able to maintain a lively voice, I struggle to stand still and make eye contact with my audience. I think my weakness is because I am nervous. If I learn how to calm my nerves, I can work on improving my weak areas. I don’t think there’s a way to suddenly get rid of my nerves, but with practice and time I think I will be able to get over them.
It is important for me to work my presentations skills because, presenting information clearly and effectively is a key skill in getting your message across.
