DISCUSSION POST MUST BE 10+ SENTENCES AND THE PEER REVIEWS MUST BE 7+ SENTENCES PLEASE USE YOUR OWN WORDS AND DO NOT COPY FROM OTHER SITES STAY ON TOPIC ,BE POSITIVE , AND DO NOT COMMENT ON GRAMMAR ERRORS. TALK DIRECTLY TO CLASSMATES IN PEER REVIEWS!!! YOU MUST COMPLETE BOTH PEER REVIEWS AND DISCUSSION QUESTION!! THANK YOU

1) DISCUSSION QUESTION

Part 1: Post a Response

This week is all about our DNA and gene expression. The complete set of all DNA in a cell is called the genome. The complete set of all the mRNA in a cell is called the transcriptome. Read the following article about the transcriptome found at: https://www.genome.gov/13014330/transcriptome-fact-sheet/, then address the following:

  • Explain how the transcriptome helps us to better understand the differences between cells from different types of tissues that are specialized for different functions.
  • What do you think is the most interesting or significant thing about the transcriptome?

2) PEER REVIEW #1 (CYNTHIA)

Hello Class,

Explain how the transcriptome helps us to better understand the differences between cells from different types of tissues that are specialized for different functions.

The transcriptome can tell you all the information that is being transcribed. This allows you to know what the cells gene expression looks like at a given time.

What do you think is the most interesting or significant thing about the transcriptome?

While your genome stays the same, the transcriptome (what mRNA is being copied) can change. This shows what activity a cell may be doing. Different cells transcribe different genes for different purposes even though they may all have the same genetic material. This is important to understand a cell’s function or differentiation.

3) PEER REVIEW #2 (NATAUSHA)

DNA is copied to type of RNA called mRNA by a process called transcriptome Transcriptome is the collection of all genes that are present in a cell. Transcriptome is very beneficial to research. Researchers can search a transcriptome database and find a list of all tissues in which a gene is expressed as well as find clues about its possible function. Also, they can compare different gene types to gain deeper understanding of what constitutes a specific gene. Depending on the technique, they can count the number of transcriptome to determine the amount of gene activity which is also known as gene expression. Lastly, By analyzing the entire collection of RNA sequences, researchers can determine when and where each gene is turned off in cells and tissues of an organism. The most interesting thing to me about transcriptome is how beneficial it could be to research when it comes to diseases such as cancer. By researching the effects of diseases on cells, their ccould be major breakthroughs.
